\n\t\t\tIntroduction\t<\/h3>\n\t

China in the Modern World Research Group in the Department of Chinese Studies has been set up with the department’s support to promote research on Chinese history from the mid-nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth century. The research group is particularly interested in fostering\u00a0scholarly\u00a0exchanges and collaborative works that address\u00a0China’s modern transformations from global, transnational, and comparative perspectives.\u00a0While\u00a0the research group centres on\u00a0history,\u00a0we welcome scholarly collaboration across literature, philosophy, linguistics, translation, cultural studies, and the social sciences.<\/p>\n

We welcome faculty and graduate students from the Department of Chinese Studies and the wider NUS community interested\u00a0in modern and contemporary Chinese history\u00a0to join us.\u00a0The group\u00a0pledges\u00a0to facilitate intellectual dialogue\u00a0with\u00a0scholars and scholarly communities\u00a0worldwide\u00a0with a shared interest in understanding modern and contemporary\u00a0China. The research group seeks to\u00a0establish the Chinese Studies Department as a\u00a0leading centre of research and exchange on\u00a0modern and contemporary Chinese history\u00a0through seminars, workshops, conferences, and informal discussions.<\/p>\n

Our activities include:<\/p>\n

  1. Organise internal discussions featuring faculty and student presentations of current research, ongoing manuscripts, and recent publications.<\/li>\n
  2. Host public or in-house talks and guest lectures by invited speakers and academic visitors.<\/li>\n
  3. Organise workshops, seminars, and international conferences with academic partners.<\/li>\n
  4. Help with the publication of group projects or conference proceedings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
