They organise, lead and participate in University and Faculty-level initiatives. These include events – such as NUS Open House, #DiscoverFASS@CHS, CHS Open House and CHS Orientation – where Ambassadors are given the opportunity to interact and share with prospective students and their parents. As a representative voice of the student community, Ambassadors also participate in focus group discussions with the Faculty and become pillars of outreach on social media. Ambassadors can also look forward to passing on their experience and knowledge, serving as mentors for the next batch.
Will I need to participate in all outreach / FASS initiatives?
No, there is no fixed number of outreach events that Ambassadors are obliged to manage or participate in. These will be on a sign-up basis, and you can choose to participate based on your availability. There is also a great variety of responsibilities available that can accommodate different levels of commitment from students. We do, however, encourage Ambassadors to make use of these platforms as stepping stones to gain more confidence and develop other skills.
What is the definition of a role model for FASS students?
Here, Ambassadors have the opportunity to make a real impact in guiding and inspiring those that come after them. Hence, the emphasis is really on their having a passion for joining the programme and wanting to make a difference in the community.
How will I benefit from this programme?
To support you in your journey as role models, the programme provides briefing and training sessions that help Ambassadors in their professional and personal development. Furthermore, the programme empowers Ambassadors by giving them autonomy in their work. This means that you will be given ample opportunity to experience planning, executing and leading events, instead of being restricted to only taking instructions from a Faculty staff member. As a result, Ambassadors will get to deepen their experience in events and outreach planning and expand their skill set.
How long must I commit to the programme and what is the workload like?
An Ambassador’s term is 12 months long. Ambassadors will be invited to join various FASS engagement opportunities and they will be accordingly briefed on the stakeholders they will meet and engage with. The workload is flexible and based on the events that you sign up for.
Can I hold other portfolios (e.g. Ambassador for another Faculty, Leadership role with Societies etc) at the same time?
Yes. In fact, we do recommend this if you are able to manage your commitments to no detriment to your academic work. This allows for a more well-rounded Ambassador experience, as you would be able to experience different facets of NUS life.
What qualities are the Faculty looking for in an Ambassador?
To be effective representatives, Ambassadors must have sufficient knowledge of NUS and FASS. They should also be empathetic towards others in the community, considerate of multiple perspectives and be ready to lend a helping hand when needed. We also value effective communicators who can express thoughts, actions and words with ease and to great effect.
How do I apply to be an Ambassador?
We encourage applicants to submit a short video, as detailed on the webpage. This allows us to get to know you a little bit better. More information on what to include in the video can be found here.

Hear from our Ambassadors:

Sophia Wong
Global Studies and Political Science
“Being a FASS student ambassador gave me the chance to contribute to the planning and execution of large scale events that involve thousands of students and even members of the public. My most memorable experience was during this year’s FASS Open House as I got to engage prospective students that were interested in taking a major within our faculty. It was a fulfilling experience sharing with them my university journey and what they can expect by joining us. I urge those that have the heart to serve to apply for the role and make a positive impact.
