Application

The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake graduate student recruitment on its behalf. Candidates interested in our graduate programme are advised to apply directly to the University and not through any agents. Candidates who apply through agents will not have any added advantage in gaining admission and the University reserves the right to reject such applications without giving reasons.

Interested applicants should follow the instructions provided in this webpage regarding application to FASS Graduate Research Programmes.

Application for admission to the programme is available online. The online application system will be available on the application site during the application period.

There is only 1 intake per year in Semester 1 which begins in August. The application period will be from 16 May (in the year preceding the intake) to 1 November (in the year preceding the intake).

A research proposal should be submitted along with other supporting documents. The proposal must clearly identify the 2 Asian geographical or cultural areas the student wishes to study.

Applications received after 1 November will be considered for the next relevant intake.  Each application must be accompanied by an application fee of S$50.00 (inclusive of GST) which is not refundable.

Outcome of applications will be made known by end May (in the same year as the intake).

Important:
Due to the large number of applications received each year, we regret that we will not be able to attend to enquiries on the status of applications or receipt of documents. If you are concerned about the delivery of your documents, please send them via registered mail or courier.

The research proposal is an important part of the application. Keeping with the comparative approach of the CAS PhD programme, the proposal must clearly identify the 2 Asian geographical or cultural areas the student wishes to study, e.g. East Asia and Southeast Asia, or South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult his/her proposed thesis advisor before submitting their proposals. Applicants may approach any faculty members from any departments in FASS to be their thesis advisor.
