Admission Requirements

Applications are invited from candidates who meet the following requirements:

    1. Possess a good Masters degree in a relevant discipline; or
    2. Have an NUS Honours degree (at least Second Class Upper Division) or equivalent (e.g. a 4-year Bachelors degree with an average grade above B) in a relevant discipline, subject to approval by the Faculty, on a case-by-case basis
    3. Have at least intermediate competence in 1 Asian language at the point of application and be prepared to develop that competence to “advanced” level, and to undertake the study of another Asian language to “intermediate” competence
    4. Applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not English should obtain a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section) or a minimum total score of 5.0 under the new score scale, or alternatively, a minimum IELTS score of 6.0
    5. The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is optional. However, do note that evidence of strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical skills through GRE scores, as well as indicators of research skills and experience will significantly strengthen your application.
