Dr Lim Beng Choo is Associate Professor at the Department of Japanese Studies, NUS. After graduating from NUS, she worked briefly as an interpreter before pursuing her Ph.D. in East Asian Literature at Cornell University with an Overseas Research Scholarship from NUS. Upon graduation she returned to the department where she got her first degree. She teaches Japanese premodern literature and theater, among other subjects.
Research Interests/Publications:
Over the years she has explored various areas of research, including translation, film and traditional theater. She has spent time in University of California, Berkeley; Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto; Hosei University and University of Tokyo Historiography Institute teaching and working on various projects. Other than her book on late medieval period noh practitioner Kanze Nobumitsu, she has published on film and traditional Japanese theater. Her main research interests include translation and analysis of Chinese style noh plays; technology and traditional Japanese performance, and theater studies in Digital Humanities.
