Research Interests/Publications:

Much of Prof Sidaway’s research is about the relations of states, cities and geopolitics. He has explored their interactions  through fieldwork in Southern Africa, Western Europe, parts of Southeast Asia and latterly the Persian Gulf and Kurdistan Region of Iraq.  The historical geography and current economic and political geographies of development have also been a long-term interest (See for example: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00330124.2011.586878#.UkAK19KnriY). These and other works are influenced by a wide range of postcolonial writing and theory. Other research interests include the history and philosophy of geography, financial geographies, 'Deathscapes' (spaces for death, mourning and remembrance) and geographies of security/insecurity ('Securityscapes').
