Research Title: Tourism and Cultural Clash: A Case Study of Dali, China

As a natural process of cultural encounters, tourism can elicit considerable changes in indigenous society, for instance, destination communities’ lifestyle, ethnicity, beliefs, cultural practice, and cultural identity can be influenced and changed by tourism. The thesis hopes to objectively and neutrally analyze the impact of tourism on indigenous society from from both an individual and community perspective, and address such cultural clash process “from the native’s point of view”. When it comes to methodology, Community-Based Tourism theory, among others, is what the thesis focus on, and the thesis intends to use these theories critically, enriching the theoretical frameworks of CBT and cultural clash in the same time.
