REGISTRATION FOR THE 2026 METHODS SCHOOL WILL OPEN SOON
Only last minute registration for non-academics will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The 2026 Methods School is now one week. Both Morning and Afternoon sessions are still available.
The Methods School offers intensive training with outstanding international faculty in advanced social science research methods. Participants can choose from the following courses:
| One-week courses (17.5 hours) | |
| 29 June (Mon) to 3 July (Fri) 2026 | One week course (Morning OR Afternoon)
Morning 9:00 am -12:30 pm:
Afternoon 2:00pm - 5:30 pm: |
*Advanced Qualitative Analysis can be taken independently of Introduction to Qualitative Analysis.
The courses are scheduled for either 9:00 am - 12:30 pm or 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Each one week course is either Morning or Afternoon. However, participants may choose to enrol for both a Morning and Afternoon course. Due to the rigor of the coursework, we recommend that participants do not take more than one course per week, and the discount for taking a second one-week course does not apply when morning and afternoon courses from the same week are combined.
English is the language of instruction for all Methods School courses. Although there are no prerequisite requirements for any students to exhibit English language proficiency, we highly recommend that students have at least some English language fluency to participate in class and learnt the class room materials.
Exam
Please note that the exams are conducted by the NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods and not the National University of Singapore. If you want take Methods School courses – as a stand-alone module or as part of an independent/supervised study project – for credit towards your degree, you need to inquire at your home university to determine whether and under what conditions this may be possible.
Choosing a Course
Read the course outlines and detailed descriptions carefully before choosing a Methods School course. For successful learning, you should have the background knowledge necessary to follow the course of your choice. Therefore, base your selection upon both your research goals and your previous training.
While there is some overlap between these groups, most of our quantitative and qualitative methods courses fall into one of the following three categories:
| Foundational | Intermediate | Advanced | |
| Quantitative Classes | Network Analysis | ||
| Survey Research | |||
| Introduction to Quantitative Text Analysis | |||
| Qualitative Classes |
Introduction to Research Design | Qualitative Data Analysis 1 | Qualitative Data Analysis 2 |
| Doing Ethnography | |||
| Interviews and Focus Groups |
If you are uncertain about whether a course is appropriate for your needs or given your background, contact the Methods School team. We will help you select the course that best meets your personal and professional needs.
While we do not encourage last-minute switching of courses, you have the opportunity to change your course until the second day of the Methods School as long as the other courses are not fully booked.
If you are interested in shorter, 2-3 day methods courses in Singapore, you may want to look into the training options provided by the NUS Centre for Family and Population Research.
