This programme is designed for professionals in the arts and heritage sector seeking to deepen their knowledge about the region, and for individuals passionate about Southeast Asian arts and heritage, as well as their practice and long-term sustainability.

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Arts and Heritage in Southeast Asia will gain a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of arts and heritage through the Department's innovative teaching approach, which integrates diverse art forms, heritage perspectives, and learning methodologies from multiple disciplines. Equipped with practical skills developed both in the classroom and through immersive field experiences, including embodied learning techniques such as dance and music, graduates will be well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the preservation and advancement of regional arts and heritage.


What is a Graduate Certificate?

Graduate certificate is a set of predetermined credit-bearing graduate-level modular courses that are a short and focused credential, ideal for targeted upskilling.

Students can gain relevant skills to keep themselves up-to-date on the most recent advancements in skills and knowledge. With dedicated faculty and carefully crafted syllabus and assessments, students will have the opportunity to stack credits towards a Graduate Diploma and progress to a Master’s at a pace that fits their goals and schedule.

What you will master:

  • Regional Expertise: Analyzed the evolving structures and interpretations of arts and heritage across Southeast Asia, from historical traditions to contemporary expressions.
  • Strategic Analysis: Investigated the interplay of political, economic, and social forces driving the regional arts landscape.
  • Applied Practice: Gained direct, practical engagement with visual, material, and performing arts traditions, bridging theoretical study with real-world application.
  • Cross-Cultural Fluency: Developed a nuanced, interdisciplinary approach to navigating cultural sensitivities and regional diversity.
  • Problem Solving: Cultivated analytical frameworks to address modern challenges in the management and sustainable development of cultural heritage.


Programme Structure

To earn the graduate certificate, students must complete 12 units.

  • Two elective courses from the Culture & Heritage (Theme 2) OR One elective from Theme 2, combined with a combination of Masterclass and Field Trip course from Special Courses.
  • One course (other credit-bearing SEA-coded courses) to fulfill the remaining unit requirements.

Note: Elective courses may not necessarily be offered in the same academic year.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate programme should have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Candidates with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an admission interview.


Candidature

The programme will be offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.

  • International students on a student visa must be enrolled for full-time study

Mode of Teaching

  • 3-hour seminar-style class
  • Classes are conducted in the day or evening (Monday to Friday)
  • Classes for each course are held once a week over a period of 13 weeks (excluding final examinations, if applicable)


Graduation Requirements

To be awarded the graduate certificate, the candidate must complete the required number of courses (12 units) and obtain at least a GPA of 2.50.

There is one application cycle in each Academic Year.

Programmes Fees

The graduate certificate tuition fee is $13,215* (inclusive of prevailing GST).

In addition, candidates are also required to pay other miscellaneous student fees as decided by the University.

* GST is charged at a prevailing rate of 9% from the year 2024.

The University reserves the right to review and adjust the course fees and make changes to the programme structure and requirements as necessary and accordingly without prior notice.
