YEO SIEW HAN
Siew Han Yeo's research examines the social history of the Chinese diaspora in British Burma and their numerous connections with the Straits Settlements. In particular, she is interested in how constructions of 'Chineseness' have been influenced by (1) long-standing historical patterns of Chinese migration and settlement in Southeast Asia, and (2) the social, religious, and racial categorizations imposed by British colonial governance in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
