NANSA Network Event

16/08/2025

On 16 August 2025, the newly established NUS Alumni Network for Sociology and Anthropology (NANSA) held its inaugural event.

The gathering brought together around 50 participants, including faculty members, current undergraduate and postgraduate students, and alumni. The evening featured a panel discussion with recent graduates on navigating life after university, followed by an informal networking session over pizza. Centered on the theme “It’s Not Just About Jobs,” the event explored how studying Sociology and Anthropology shapes the way we imagine life beyond the university.

Formally launched in July 2025—coinciding with the Department’s 60th anniversary—NANSA was founded to strengthen connections with the department, the discipline, and one another. Initiated by alumni Liurong Wang (’24), Yee Ling Lok (’23), Li Lin Seow (’24), and Zhijun Liu (’24), the network seeks to consolidate alumni activities and foster ties across more than 50 graduating cohorts.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. It was especially encouraging to see alumni from earlier batches return to share their journeys, enabling current students to broaden their perspectives on post-graduation pathways. This spirit of cross-generational exchange is precisely what many of us wished for as students, and we are delighted that NANSA now provides the structure to make it possible.

Looking ahead, we warmly invite alumni from across all years to participate. NANSA will be as strong and vibrant as the community that supports it.
