FASS Professor Phillip Holden calls for critical reflection on university rankings in commentary article in Today (17 September 2014)

In a recent commentary in Today, Professor Philip Holden (FASS Dept of English Language and Literature) discusses the notion of university rankings. Holden articulates how ranking systems can be flawed not only in themselves, but also in misrepresenting the essence of university life, especially to students. Prof Holden also points to the importance of public intellectualism amongst university academics in asking difficult and uncomfortable questions to and with society.
