  • Dr Ivan Kwek Eng Tai

Dr Ivan Kwek is a lecturer from FASS Sociology Department. He holds a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Ivan conducted ethnography of media production at the only Malay-language terrestrial television channel in Singapore for his doctoral research. His thesis was an attempt to present an anthropologically-informed account of media production reconsidered in terms of its constitutive practices. Currently, he is working on the cultural production of Malayness through media, memories, and place. At NUS, he has taught courses in Visual Culture, Media and Culture, Race and Ethnicity in South Southeast Asia, and Popular Culture.

  •   Dr Gilbert Yeoh

Dr Gilbert Yeoh is a Senior Lecturer from the English Language and Literature Department, FASS. He is a Singaporean who studied English Literature at Harvard University. His core teaching area centres on 20th century literature, often with a focus on modernist and postmodernist literature. He also teaches courses on film, in particular with emphasis on film aesthetics. His research interests include literature and ethics, as well as the writings of J.M. Coetzee.

He has worked as a freelance photojournalist for Singapore’s main English daily newspaper, the Straits Times, and his photo essays can be seen regularly on popular online news and entertainment portal Insing.com. In 2011, he was named as one of the 10 emerging photographers by PLATFORM. A mentee of celebrated visual artist John Clang, his work has been shown at the National Museum of Singapore and most recently at the Obscura Festival of Photography in Penang and the Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia. In 2013, he published his first book, “Our Coastline” as part of the twentyfifteen.sg initiative to commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. Living in a society constantly in flux, he uses photography to explore the themes of memory and loss, as well as the fears and insecurities of his generation of Singaporeans.
