Programme Description
This course introduces tools for conducting empirical analysis of longitudinal data: data collected from the same entities at different points in time. Such data is commonly seen in health and social sciences research.
Course Date
6/7/2026 - 7/7/2026
Venue
NUS Kent Ridge Campus (AS8)
Trainer
Dr Denis Tkachenko
Programme Description
This course will introduce participants to the basics of multivariate regression analysis. It will cover topics such as OLS regression, binary logistic regression, and multinomial logistic regression. In addition, it will discuss the difference between randomized controlled experiments and observational studies. The course will also discuss a range of statistical relationships common in the social sciences---spuriousness, mediator, partial explanation, suppression, and interaction. The course uses SPSS.
Course Date
20/7/2026 - 21/7/2026
Venue
NUS Kent Ridge Campus (AS8)
Trainer
A/Prof Vincent Chua
Programme Description
Qualitative analysis is an intuitive, open-ended, and creative process where the analyst takes on the role of "researcher-as-instrument" to order data through gradual induction. This intermediate course introduces participants to the theory, process, protocols, and practice of qualitative data analysis. It focuses on the unique characteristic of qualitative research where data collection and analysis operate simultaneously in the inductive process of which "coding" and "interpretation" are central.
Course Date
22/7/2026 - 23/7/2026
Venue
NUS Kent Ridge Campus (AS7 - The Shaw Foundation Building)
Trainer
A/Prof Narayanan Ganapathy
Programme Description
This course covers the essential first principles of questionnaire construction and sampling design. Learn how to create sharp, effective instruments using reliable and valid scales to accurately capture real-world data. Pair these with representative samples to avoid worthless data, and gain insider tips to improve interviewing experiences and response rates. This training ensures researchers produce the high-quality data needed for solid social science research and policy papers.
