Abstract
This study investigates the impact of theory-based policy interventions on fertility intentions in Singapore, employing a multifactorial vignette experiment. Drawing upon established theories in demography and social psychology, we explore how variations in policy frameworks can influence individual and couple decisions regarding childbearing. The experiment systematically manipulates key factors such as economic incentives, work-life balance initiatives, and social support structures to gauge their effects on fertility decisions. By analyzing responses to these vignettes, the study seeks to identify which policy mixes are perceived as most supportive of family expansion decisions. This method allows for an empirical assessment of preferences and perceptions that can inform more effective governmental strategies aimed at reversing the trend of low fertility. The findings are anticipated to offer strategic insights into the design of policies that not only mitigate practical barriers to having more children but also shift cultural perceptions and attitudes towards larger families in Singapore.
