After graduating as a Geography major, I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of my career path but keenly interested in research-related opportunities. That's when I stumbled upon CFPR, and something just clicked. Starting as a research assistant and eventually transitioning into an administrative track, this journey has been rewarding, offering me a comprehensive understanding of how a research centre operates.
As a firstborn and a first-generation Singaporean, navigating life's intricacies independently became my norm. From deciphering the education system to securing financial aid during challenging times, making friends, and mastering the art of code-switching in different social contexts, I embraced the journey of self-discovery.
A pivotal moment that shaped my perspective was the premature birth of my daughter. Her early arrival not only showcased her resilience but also unveiled the depth of my own. During her time in Neonatal Care, managing emails and budgeting (to prevent work from accumulating) served as a distraction from the chaos and sadness surrounding me. In many ways, my roles at work and home mirror each other, creating a symbiotic relationship that fuels my passion for both.
In essence, I am still exploring the power of self-discovery woven through the various chapters of life. From academic-career pursuits to unexpected challenges in parenthood, each experience has shaped and moulded me, revealing the strength that comes from knowing oneself. It is through these diverse encounters that I have learned the invaluable lessons of resilience, and the pursuit of fulfilment, bridging the realms of both career and family life.
