DR IZUMI WALKER

JAPANESE PROGRAMME CONSULTANT

Dr Walker joined NUS in September 2000, and she is currently the Assistant Director of the Centre as well as
the Convenor for the Japanese language program. She is also the President for the Japanese Language Teachers'
Association in Singapore. Dr Walker was initially trained in US, received a MSc degree in Applied Linguistics from
Edinburgh University, UK and worked as a Lecturer at universities in the USA, UK, and Japan prior to moving to
Singapore. Since she joined CLS, she obtained a Phd in Japanese Applied Linguistics from Waseda University. She
has taught students of various levels from elementary course to MBA program. Her current research interests are
Pedagogy for "Taigu Communication" and "Performative Exercises", Use of Media Materials for Language Education.
