The Korean Language Programme of the Centre for Language Studies has a great experience and dedicated teachers. The course will be conducted by professional NUS teachers, applying communicative approaches to motivate students and enhance learning outcome. The Korean course is a combination of fun and education. You will find it very different from learning a boring subject in the classroom but our highly experienced tutors will make your learning journey extremely enjoyable and fruitful.

KOREAN LANGUAGE LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Korean Language courses are designed and structured for the busy working professional who aspires to attain language mastery in the Korean Language.
Competencies achieved through attending the progressive courses are useful to building confidence so as to enable the individual to speak, understand and read basic syntax in the newly-acquired language focus.
Courses are designed in a structured and coherent manner, positioned from an adult perspective so that they closely address and match the adults’ learner’s quest for continuing education.

Successful completion of the language competencies are contingent upon participants’ consistency in attendance, and the dedication of time to practice after each class session. Yonsei Korean in 3 Week will be used as a textbook and extra material will be given to you for activities in the class and self-study handouts will be provided too.

Pre-requisites

NO MINIMUM STANDARD REQUIRED FOR EMBARKING ON THE COURSE

The Korean Language courses are designed in progression from Level 1 to Level 3. This corresponds to a beginner in the language focus to roughly the equivalent of Beginner Level.

No specific pre-requisites are needed to enroll in Level 1. However, people who have intention to join mid-stage in the series of Levels are advised to conduct the placement test.

Assessments

INCORPORATING ASSESSMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Each course of content comprises some 30 hours, incorporating assessments and assignments. For each of the levels from 1 to 3, there will be an assessment (pass or fail) set for students to gauge their ability and readiness to continue onto the next higher level in Korean Language.

Certificates of Participation will be granted to participants who have attended at least 70% of the classes.

Certificates of Achievement will be granted to participants who have attended at least 70% of the classes and successfully passed the final assessment.

Proficiency Certificates will be granted to individuals who have successfully completed three consecutive levels, encompassing Levels 1 to 3, Levels 4 to 6, and Levels 7 to Level 9.

Course Description:
This course is designed to teach students the basics of Korean language which include basic grammatical concepts, text reading and conversation skills.

Course Content:
You will start the class with learning Korean alphabets (Hangeul) to read and write Korean followed by everyday topics. At the end of the term, you can read and write Korean as well as be able to greet and make a basic conversation in Korean mostly in a classroom setting.

Course Description:
This course is a continuation from Korean 1, aiming to further develop learners’ language proficiency and communicative structures using an integrated approach. Through the exposure to participation in authentic communicative tasks, students will be able to express themselves fluently, develop a better understanding of cultural and sociolinguistic aspects of the language.

In Level 2, you can learn how to introduce yourself and most importantly numbers and all sorts of tasks related to numbers. This course is a continuation of Korean 2, aiming at strengthening learners’ communicative competence using an integrated approach. Korean 4 extends the skills developed in Korean 3, emphasizing improved communication through advanced language structures and vocabulary. Students will engage in complex conversations and gain deeper cultural insights, enhancing both their linguistic abilities and intercultural understanding through practical tasks.

This course is designed to enable students to listen, speak, write, and read naturally using a variety of grammatical structures and vocabulary applicable to real-life situations. In addition to the content included in the textbook, students will also learn additional expressions that are useful in everyday life.
