Arabic ranks as the fifth most spoken language in the world with more than 300 million native speakers in 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Arabic is also the liturgical language of Islam and it is understood by many Muslims throughout the world. Learning Arabic will help you to understand Islam, the Quran, and Muslim culture. Arabic-speaking countries are a fast growing market for trade and business and provide a huge export and import market for goods and services. Knowing Arabic will get you ahead in a thriving economy and you will set yourself apart in the business world.

The knowledge of a foreign language is considered to be a distinct advantage in almost every profession and people with bilingual or multilingual skills are in demand in almost all sectors. LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR ARABIC LANGUAGE

Upon successful completion of Arabic 3 you will be able to read, write and comprehend texts of moderate complexity and to express yourself in a variety of contexts appropriate for daily experiences. A certificate of proficiency is awarded to participants who successfully complete Arabic 3.

Pre-requisites

NO MINIMUM STANDARD REQUIRED FOR EMBARKING ON THE COURSE

The Arabic Language modules are designed in progression from Level 1 to Level 3. This corresponds to a beginner in the language focus to roughly the equivalent of Beginner Level.

No specific pre-requisites are needed to enroll in Level 1. However, people who have intention to join mid-stage in the series of Levels are advised to conduct the placement test.

Assessments

INCORPORATING ASSESSMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Each module of content comprises some 30 hours, incorporating assessments and assignments. For each of the levels from 1 to 3, there will be an assessment (pass or fail) set for students to gauge their ability and readiness to continue onto the next higher level in Arabic Language.

Certificates of Participation will be granted to participants who have attended at least 70% of the classes.

Certificates of Achievement will be granted to participants who have attended at least 70% of the classes and successfully passed the final assessment.

Proficiency Certificates will be granted to individuals who have successfully completed three consecutive levels, encompassing Levels 1 to 3, Levels 4 to 6, and Levels 7 to Level 9.

In this course, participants will expand their basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in the assigned lessons and develop strong reading, writing, speaking and listening abilities. They will learn to write short paragraphs, practice reading and understand conversations in formal settings. The course will provide participants with ample opportunities to practice and use language in a supportive community of learners. In order to do so, participants will work in groups or in pairs. Each student is required to be involved by preparing for class and doing assigned homework prior to class as well as participate in classwork activities.
