The knowledge of a foreign language is considered to be a distinct advantage in almost every profession and people with bilingual or multilingual skills are in demand in almost all sectors. The Hindi language course will be conducted by professional NUS teachers, applying communicative approaches to motivate students and enhance learning outcome. The Hindi course is a combination of fun and education. Learning Hindi gives you a better understanding through the grammar and even how the Hindi phrases are derived of the culture behind them. Knowing Hindi is extremely rewarding and those who master the language can find careers in many fields like business and industry, journalism, education, finance and banking, translation and interpretation, tourism, etc.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Hindi Language courses are designed and structured for the busy working professional who would like to develop the ability to communicate in Hindi while getting a better insight into the Hindi and north Indian culture and reality.

All courses are designed for adult learners, in a structured and systematic way that seeks to satisfy the adult learner’s quest for continuing education.
Competencies achieved through attending the progressive courses are useful to building confidence so as to enable the individual to speak, understand and read basic syntax in the newly-acquired language focus.
Through the course, students will acquire basic linguistic and socio-cultural knowledge of the Hindi language. All participants will acquire basic grammar and vocabulary to perform authentic communicative tasks in everyday situations.
After the course, the students will be able to comprehend short texts, as well as to express themselves in a variety of topical situations in daily life as well as during personal interactions. They will also gain an understanding of the target language society and observe how the language is used in context. They will acquire language learning and communication strategies that will support their language learning and language use. Successful completion of the language competencies are contingent upon participants’ consistency in attendance, and the dedication of time to practice after each class session.
A certificate of proficiency is awarded to participants who successfully complete Hindi 3.

This course is designed to teach students the basics of Hindi language which include basic grammatical concepts, text reading and conversation skills. At the end of the course, students will be able to talk about likes and dislikes, family, describe the seasons etc. Students will also learn basics of Devanagari script.

Course Content:
Students will be engaging in tasks to achieve the following communicative functions:
1. Greetings
2. Introducing myself and Friends
3. Nationality
4. Family
5. Age
6. Likes, dislikes, preferences
7. Weather
8. Describing people, places and things
9. Time

It is an integrated course, which will help to gain basic proficiency in the four skills: listening, speaking reading, and writing, as well as grammar, and vocabulary. Learners will also learn and use the Devanagari script. The emphasis is mainly on conversational Hindi and its practical use at the level of everyday discourse. At the end of the course, they are able to hold basic conversations in different situation and write simple paragraphs.
