This course is a continuation from Thai 1/Basic Conversational Thai 1, aiming to further develop learners’ language proficiency and communicative structures using an integrated approach. Through the exposure to the Thai language and participation in authentic communicative tasks, students will be able to express themselves fluently, develop a better understanding of cultural and sociolinguistic aspects of the language.

Course Content:

This course is a continuation of Thai 8, aiming to equip students with skills and strategies to read and understand authentic texts in relation to Thai media. Students will be engaged in a wide range of advanced and authentic reading materials that are relevant to current social, cultural, economic and political developments. Further, students’ communication and presentation skills on complex topics will be developed.
Through exposure to texts in new media and authentic materials, students will be engaged in forms of the target language as it appears in real life usage and authentic communicative situations. This will offer students with opportunity to further enhance their understanding of Thailand, its culture, people as well as other cultures. Students will be introduced to current affairs and topics relevant to Thai culture, society, history, business, etc. Reading materials will be drawn from new media including newspapers, Internet, radio and TV, magazines, and literature. Completing the course, students will be equipped with a sound foundation in the target language to help them acquire the knowledge and skills so that they are able to communicate in the Thai language on a wide range of topics pertinent to the target language.
