The International Journal of Press/Politics (IJPP) has announced the appointment of a new Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Taberez A. Neyazi from the National University of Singapore (NUS), marking a significant milestone as the first Asian editor to lead this prestigious publication. Published by Sage Publications, the IJPP is a top ranked journal in the field of communication and political science. Since its establishment in 1996, the IJPP has consistently published pioneering research on the interplay between media and politics, utilizing a diverse array of approaches, methodologies, and a uniquely international and comparative perspective.

Taking over the editorial helm, Dr. Neyazi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Communications and New Media and a Principal Investigator at the Centre for Trusted Internet and Community, NUS,  brings a rich academic background, contributing significantly to the understanding of media-political dynamics in world’s largest democracy, India. His research primarily focuses on the relationship between media use and political behavior, emphasizing campaign strategy, internet control, and misinformation. Methodologically, Dr. Neyazi employs a diverse array of quantitative and computational techniques, including large-scale surveys, experimental research, media content analysis, and sentiment analysis, in addition to qualitative methods such as newsroom observation and interviews. His scholarly work, recognized globally, aligns with the journal’s commitment to innovative and diverse research approaches.

The journal has a rich heritage of leadership, including founding editors Pippa Norris (Harvard University) and Marvin Kalb (Harvard University), followed by luminaries such as Alex Jones (American journalist), Thomas Patterson (Harvard University), Silvio Waisbord (George Washington University), Rasmus K. Nielsen (University of Oxford) and Cristian Vaccari (University of Edinburgh). Under their leadership, the Journal has flourished and significantly expanded its scope and impact. The IJPP is set to continue its tradition of excellence under new leadership, maintaining rigorous standards of scholarly integrity and expanding its impact on the study of media and politics worldwide. “It is my privilege to contribute to a journal that has been a significant part of my academic life, and I am committed to advancing our understanding of media and political dynamics across different cultures and political systems, aiming to inspire future generations of students and scholars.” said Dr. Neyazi.

He further remarked, “In today’s globalized environment, the interaction between media and politics is more crucial than ever. We aim to continue expanding our reach and depth, bringing in diverse perspectives that challenge and advance our understanding of these interactions.”

The outgoing IJPP editor, Professor Cristian Vaccari from the University of Edinburgh, said: “I am delighted that Taberez Neyazi has been appointed as the next Editor-in-Chief of the IJPP.
