Gender and the Media in Contemporary Japan: Continuity and Change

Hiromi-Tanaka-Poster-Template-2auk7v1

Research about gender and the media constitutes an important part of a scholarship of media and communication as well as gender studies. It emerged about half a century ago, initially as ‘women and media’ studies. Since then, many empirical studies have been conducted and a number of concepts and theories have been developed. This lecture, organised by the Cultural Research Centre, introduces you to this exciting research area with a focus on contemporary Japan. After an overview of the research so far, the lecture presents the current situation related to digital media and identifies old and new gender issues therein.

This event is sponsored and hosted by the Cultural Research Centre, a new research incubator in Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore. To contact the Cultural Research Centre, please email: culturalresearch@nus.edu.sg
