TS2238/SSA2218 Singapore Film: Performance of Identity
Lecturer: Edna LIM
Singapore Film aims to introduce students to Singapore cinema and to interrogate how it functions as a national cinema. The course tries to challenge students to look beyond simple definitions of Singapore film, and indeed, of national identity. It ends with a group creative project of a short film and a report on it.
Some of the films have been submitted to competitions and achieved success, and many of the students continue to make films or participate in the industry after graduation. The mini festivals we curate from the students' work broaden their exposure to the possibilities of Singapore film and show them that the work they produce participates in the process of national cinema.
