GIS Spatial Analysis
Course ID: TGS-2024043277
*before GST and available funding, where applicable
GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. Using computer hardware and GIS software, we can display, query, analyse, and interpret geospatial data in visual ways, revealing patterns and relationships in the geographic world. GIS enables us to understand what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen in geographic space. Geospatial science has become increasingly important in developing solutions to global challenges such as sustainability, food security, healthcare management, and even rapid urbanisation, among others, particularly with advancements in technologies like satellite systems and GPS-enabled devices.
This short course covers the following components:
- Introduction to Basic Spatial Analysis methods and Spatial Statistics/Network Analysis/GeoAI Analysis
- Hands-on practicals of Spatial Analysis
Objectives
Students will gain knowledge of geospatial data analytics. They will gain skills for analysing location-based data such as point pattern analysis and road network analysis. This course will cover common data analytics knowledge and skills demanded by the geospatial industry. This course will prepare students for learning deeper GIS topics and performing advanced industry-relevant GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tasks such as advanced spatial big data analytics and decision-making.
- Executives and professionals without a GIS background in both the private and public sectors
- People who aspire to pursue a geospatial career, such as Geospatial Executives, GIS Engineers, GIS Consultants, GIS Mapping Specialists, Geospatial Specialists, and Geospatial Policymakers
Diploma or Degree holders of any discipline, at least 1 year of working experience in the related sector is preferred; Candidates with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval by the Department.
