Muzzammil Yassin is a lecturer with the Arabic Programme at the Centre for Language Studies (CLS). National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated with a B.A. (Hons with distinction) from the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. He also holds an M.A. in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) from the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he taught Arabic at the renowned Arabic Language Institute (ALI) from 2010 – 2012. The late Dr. El-Said Badawi was one of his mentors in the TAFL programme at the AUC.

Muzzammil has won the FASS Faculty Excellence Teaching Award for 3 consecutive years from AY2017/2018 to AY2019/2020. He was also awarded the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award for AY2018/2019.

He is an applied linguist specializing in the Teaching of Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL), with research interests in blended learning, second language acquisition, teaching methodology, and translation linguistics. A board member (since 2017) of the Electronic Journal of Foreign Language Teaching (e-flt), a peer-reviewed academic journal published by CLS, he was appointed as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal in 2022. He is also a member of the Committee for Technology-enhanced Language Learning and was a founding member of the Outreach Committee at CLS (2017 – 2022).

As a professional translator and simultaneous interpreter, Muzzammil has also undertaken various assignments for local government ministries and Arab embassies based in Singapore, for over 15 years. He provided simultaneous interpretation for the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, held in Singapore in 2019.
