DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language). These are official diplomas, with no expiration, that certify a person’s level of proficiency in Spanish, regardless of where and how they learned it.

The DELE Spanish diplomas are granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain. Different levels are established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are designed to assess a person's overall communicative competence in Spanish (reading, listening, writing, and speaking).

For school-aged children (11-17 years), the Instituto Cervantes has adapted the levels to situations and communicative contexts appropriate for these ages, creating two exams: A1 Escolar (for Young Learners) and A2/B1 Escolar (for Young Learners). The candidates who pass the A2/B1 exam will receive one of the two level certificates depending on their results.

For Adult Learners, there are six exam levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.

STEP 1 – Registration Documents

Please submit the following documents to dele.sg@nus.edu.sg:

• Download and complete this form: DELE Enrolment Application Form. All information must be written in capital letters and using the Latin alphabet. The information provided must match the candidate's identification document exactly.
• Identification documents: Scanned copy or photo of your NRIC (Singaporeans) or Passport (all other nationalities)

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Registration documents submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

STEP 2 – Payment and Registration

• After receiving your registration documents, we will email you with payment instructions.
• Once we have confirmed your payment, you will be registered in the DELE system and will receive an automated confirmation email from Instituto Cervantes.

Please contact us if you do not receive this confirmation email.

STEP 3 – Examination Information

• Examination details (dates, times, rooms, and required documents/materials) will be sent by email at least 10 days before the examination date.

Please contact us if you do not receive this information 7 days before the exam.

STEP 4 – Examination Day(s)

• Check the email with the examination details and note the date, time, and venue for both your Written and Oral Examinations.
• Make sure you arrive with sufficient time before the exam.
• All DELE Written Examinations start strictly at 9:00 AM.
• The Oral Examination (preparation & exam) may take place on a different day from the written examination.

What to bring with you:

1. The original identification document used for registration.
2. Your registration confirmation (sent by the Instituto Cervantes by email).
3. The materials and documents listed in the examination details email.

Instituto Cervantes typically releases the results through the DELE portal 2-3 months after the exam date.

All candidates will receive an email notification once the results are released.

Candidates who receive a pass result ("APTO") will be issued an accredited digital diploma.
