News & Events

On April 5, 2025, the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) hosted an engagement session for students from the Ministry of Education Language Centre (MOELC) and their families.
The event welcomed MOELC students studying foreign languages, along with their parents, to explore what learning languages at the university level looks like. Faculty members from various language programmes set up booths filled with interactive activities related to both language and culture.
During the session, students and their families chatted with lecturers to find out how they could continue their language learning journey in university and how foreign language skills could open up academic and career opportunities. NUS student volunteers also shared their personal experiences from studying at the Centre for Language Studies, giving younger learners a glimpse of what to expect ahead.
On Friday, February 21, the Spanish Programme, CLS, FASS hosted the III Spanish Teachers Meeting Session in NUS. Professionals in the field of Spanish Language and Teaching from all over the country and from other parts of Southeast Asia attended the event. We had the pleasure to receive an opening address by HE Mrs Mercedes Alonso Frayle, Ambassador of Spain in Singapore.

ABA News Japan reported on the Aomori Global Advance Project, a collaborative initiative between NUS and Aomori Prefecture, Mutsu City, designed to promote regional revitalization. As a part of the programme, NUS students spend three weeks in Aomori during the summer, gaining valuable insights into Japan’s regional industries, culture, and society. Through hands-on activities and interaction with local university and high school students and local companies, they deepen their understanding of Aomori’s unique values and charms. The project has also successfully expanded the reach of Aomori products to international markets, including Singapore, further enhancing the Aomori brand globally, through an internship programme after returning to Singapore.
