New Faculty Appointments

A big welcome to Siddharth George and Sorawoot (Tang) Srisuma who have recently joined the Department

Siddharth George is joining the Department as an assistant professor.  He has also won a Presidential Young Professor Award; these awards are open to junior faculty at NUS and, among other perks, provide additional and highly flexible funding for research.  Besides Dr George, three other junior faculty members in the Department -– Gregory Cox, Yogita Shamdasani and Tan Hui Ren --- are also holders of these awards.

Dr George works on development economics, political economy, and labour economics.  One of his recent projects investigates how being admitted to college via affirmative action affects a student's perception of their own ability, their academic performance, and their career aspirations.

Dr George obtained his PhD in 2019 from Harvard University and his bachelor's degree from the London School of Economics.   He joins us from Boston University where he was an assistant professor.

We also welcome Tang Srisuma who joins the Department as an associate professor. Professor Srisuma’s research areas are theoretical and applied econometrics and empirical industrial organisation.  He has written several papers on how to model and estimate dynamic games. Dynamic games are models where players in the game (such as firms) interact over time.   A recent project uses such a model to investigate the impact of promotional fees that manufacturers pay to supermarkets in the UK on, among other things, consumer welfare and brand loyalty.

Professor Srisuma obtained his PhD from the London School of Economics, where he also earned his master's and bachelor's degrees. He comes to us from the University of Surrey, where he was a reader in econometrics
