ZHANG Qingyu
 Hi, I am Qingyu, a PhD student in English Language and Linguistics in NUS. I did my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Translation Studies (First Class) in 2023 at the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC). I obtained my Master of Arts in English Language and Linguistics from NUS. My academic interests primarily lie in the post-structural perspectives on how language/discourse, through semiotic mechanisms, mediates sexual ideologies and (re)constructs sexual identities/subjectivities pertaining to power relations and sexual practices. I am also interested in how discourse both perpetuates social injustice and power-asymmetrical normality, and unearths the complexity of subjectivity in this world of ever-changing relations. In the future, I seek to pursue a profession in teaching and researching language, sexuality and society in a tertiary institution. |

| Other Experience and Information | I received a 4-year Admission Scholarship (2019-2023) for my undergraduate studies in UIC, which was awarded to students performing at the top 10% in each academic programme. I used to work as a research assistant for Dr. Song Ge (UIC), who is a fabulous scholar primarily specializing in translation theories, Chinese culture in translation, and cosmopolitan translation in urbanscape. Besides my academic experience, I had a short experience of also an administrative intern in the Student Affairs Office of Academy of Continuing Education, UIC, responsible for assisting the management of the intern team and the students’ accommodation and teaching arrangements. |
