Minor in English Studies (Cohort 2022 onwards)

Programme Requirements

Pass at least 20 units of EL and EN courses which must include the following:

  1. EL1101E The Nature of Language
  2. A minimum of ONE EL level-2000 course from the following:
    EL2101 Structure of Sentences and Meanings
    EL2102 Sound Patterns in Language
    EL2111 Historical Variation in English
    EL2151 Social Variation in English
  3. EN1101E An Introduction to Literary Studies
  4. A minimum of ONE EN level-2000 course from the following:
    EN2201 Backgrounds to Western Literature and Culture
    EN2202 Critical Reading
    EN2203 Introduction to Film Studies
    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
    EN2206 Art and Social Justice
    EN2207 Gender and Sexuality in Literature
    EN2275 Writing about Literature
    EN2277 Love’s Word: Reading across Literature and Philosophy
  5. A minimum of ONE level-3000 EL or EN course

 

Note:
(a) The Minor in English Studies is NOT offered to EL major and EN major students.
(b) One level 2000 EN course (chosen from EN2201, EN2202, EN2203, EN2204, EN2205, EN2207, EN2275, EN2276, EN2277) is required as a pre-requisite or co-requisite for level-3000 EN courses; all other level-2000 courses can be taken as electives so long as graduation requirements are met.
(c) Up to 8 units may be used to meet (i) the Minor requirement and (ii) another requirement, e.g., College, Faculty, Major, Second Major, Minor, Specialisation or other requirement.

Minor in English Studies (Cohort 2021)

Programme Requirements

Pass at least 20 units of EL and EN courses which must include the following:

  1. EL1101E The Nature of Language
  2. A minimum of ONE EL level-2000 course
  3. EN1101E An Introduction to Literary Studies
  4. A minimum of ONE EN level-2000 course from the following:
    EN2201 Backgrounds to Western Literature and Culture
    EN2202 Critical Reading
    EN2203 Introduction to Film Studies
    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
    EN2206 Art and Social Justice
    EN2207 Gender and Sexuality in Literature
    EN2275 Writing about Literature
    EN2277 Love’s Word: Reading across Literature and Philosophy

    EN2201 Backgrounds to Western Literature and Culture
    EN2202 Critical Reading
    EN2203 Introduction to Film Studies
    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
    EN2206 Art and Social Justice
    EN2207 Gender and Sexuality in Literature
    EN2275 Writing about Literature
    EN2277 Love’s Word: Reading across Literature and Philosophy
  5. At least 4 units of EL and/or EN courses at level 3000.

    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
    EN2206 Art and Social Justice

  5. At least 4 units of EL and/or EN courses at level 3000.

    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
