Graduate Funding
Scholarships are available to graduate students on a selective and competitive basis. The University also supports graduate students in their research through grants for conference attendance, fieldwork, reading groups and overseas educational programmes such as summer schools and summer research programmes.
Below we highlight some of the main forms of funding and financial aid available to MA by Research and PhD students. There is less funding available for MA by Coursework students.

Masters by Research

- Masters by Research students can apply for NUS Research Scholarship
- Students who are admitted into the Masters by Research programme may be offered a teaching assistantship at the discretion of the Faculty. Students will be considered for these assistantships and need not apply for them.
Masters by Coursework
- In general, MA coursework programmes do not have scholarships. As such candidates must ensure that they have the financial resources to support themselves for their entire programme of study.
- The tuition fee for the AY2024/2025 intake is S$40,550 (inclusive of GST) for MA (English Language and Linguistics) and MA (Literary Studies), and S$40,493.60 (inclusive of GST) for MA (Theatre and Performance Studies), for the entire programme, for all students regardless of nationality.
- Students are also required to pay other miscellaneous student fees as decided by the University.
- From AY2024 to AY2026, 40% rebate will be applied to the tuition fees of Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (regardless of alumni status).
20% rebate will be applied to the tuition fees of international alumni.

Full-time graduate research students can apply for partial financial support for their paper presentations at international and local conferences. - Graduate Research Support Scheme (GRSS)
The GRSS provides funding support for students to conduct fieldwork directly related to their Masters or PhD.
