Reading SC2101 in lieu of GL3101
Dear Global Studies Students,
Please be informed of the following change in course offerings as you undertake the course enrolment exercise (MPE or second-round bidding) for Semester 1 AY2017-8: for Semester 1 AY2017-8 only, you are allowed to read SC2101 (in lieu of GL3101) in fulfilment of the methods requirement in the GL programme. Again, note that this substitution is effective only for Semester 1 AY2017-8, as GL3101 will not be offered at this time. GL3101 will be offered as usual in Semester 2 AY2017-8.
If students do not participate in MPE, you will have to bid for the course from Round 2 onward. Appeals will be sent via CORS. If you should decide to enrol in SC2101 in Semester 1 AY2017-8, note that you still need to take the requisite number of 3000-level courses to fulfil the requirements of the major since SC2101 is pegged at the 2000-level.
Separately, students can read GL3101 while on exchange should you find a suitable substitute and obtain the requisite endorsements. Those who wish to acquire more in-depth training in interpretive and critical methods can read the relevant courses in addition to the above, so long as those modules recognised under Global Studies. If a methods module that is relevant to your preparation for your HT or ISM is not yet recognised under Global Studies, please write to the the Convenors soonest so we can request for approval to recognise these modules.
Thanks for your attention. Please direct any questions to the Convenors.
Best regards,
Ian Chong, Convenor (polcji@nus.edu.sg)
Soo Yeon Kim, Co-Convenor (Sooyeon.kim@nus.edu.sg)
Kevin McGahan, Deputy Convenor (polkm@nus.edu.sg)
