NUS collaborated with the University of Geneva to participate in a diplomacy negotiation simulation that took place in Geneva from May 2025. The department of Political Science and Global Studies programme sent four students to the simulation. During the simulation, teams of students discussed and debated the topic of autonomous weapons in warfare. The simulation will take place in Geneva on May 19 and 20, 2026.
In preparation for the event, NUS students attended ten 2-hour seminars over Zoom from February to April. The sessions took place on Tuesday evenings from 9:00pm to 11:00pm. During these sessions, NUS students met with students from the University of Geneva, University of Zurich, and ETH. They formed teams and engaged in activities that helped prepare them for the simulation. In Geneva, students met with diplomats and representatives from prominent international organizations. Please see attached syllabus for more information. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and may request letter of reference.
NUS will provide $1000 per student to cover airfare. We are also currently working with the University of Geneva to secure accommodations. The University of Geneva will also lead students on a tour of some of Geneva's most iconic sites.
Students interested in participating in this program must:
- be at least a second-year Political Science or Global Studies student (second majors and minors may also apply)
- be in good academic standing
- demonstrate maturity and the ability to work independently and in teams
- have an interest in diplomacy and/or autonomous weapons in warfare
