I have always been interested in the differences and similarities in cultures across the world, and how they are expressed through the interactions between people. However, most disciplines focus on specific frameworks when analysing these processes, sometimes excluding knowledge from other disciplines that may help to supplement any gaps in understanding. Therefore, when I heard of the multidisciplinary nature of Global Studies, I was immediately attracted to the curriculum.

Within my theme of Population and Migration, and my region of Southeast Asia, I studied population phenomena through the lenses of Sociology, Geography, and Political Science, to name a few. Being able to select from a wide range of subjects has allowed me to draw links across various topics, which provided more insight than if I had studied them in isolation. To round off my global knowledge, I took the German language, where we were also taught culture alongside the language.

With my theme covering Western approaches, my region covering Asian approaches, and my language teachers exploring European culture besides their own, I think that Global Studies has really armed me with the skill to assess different cultural processes through various points of view.
