Social Work students may apply for the Concurrent Degree Programme offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The Concurrent Degree Programme (CDP) allows students to concurrently pursue a Bachelor's Degree with FASS and a Master's degree with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
The Ann Wee NUS Social Work Alumni Award was launched at the FASS 85th Anniversary Dinner, to recognise NUS social work alumni who have made major contributions to social work education and practice.
The S R Nathan Professorship in Social Work was established by the Department of Social Work, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2012 to honour Mr S R Nathan, who was the 6th President of the Republic of Singapore and former NUS Chancellor, as well as an eminent alumnus of the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The aim of the Professorship is to support the long-term goal of promoting social work education and encouraging research among scholars in Singapore and Asia on issues related to social development, poverty and asset building.
Students, faculty members, alumni and representatives from the social work community gathered to celebrate the department's 60th anniversary, marking the occasion with a symposium, the launch of the S R Nathan Professorship in Social Work, and the unveiling of the book Ebb and Flow: 60 years of Social Work Education in Singapore.
We were involved in the Singapore International Foundation's project to assist in the development of social work in Vietnam. Two members of the staff were invited to assist in the needs assessment for social work education in Outer Mongolia under a project initiated by Asian Outreach Singapore.
The Ministry of Education approved the new Master of Social Work which admitted the first cohort of students in August AY2011/12.
The previous Master of Social Sciences changed its curriculum and became known as Master of Social Work.
