About the Course (Undergraduate)
This degree aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to be a professional social work practitioner. You will learn from classroom teaching, interpersonal skills training and supervised field practice. The curriculum will expose students to a wide range of social science theories, organisation planning in the social service, human resource management and research. You will apply your learning during a compulsory field placement under the supervision of a qualified social work practitioner.
The course is also open to students who are non-Social Work majors and who wish to acquire foundational knowledge of the social service sector. You may choose to graduate with a Minor in Human Services.
You may also choose to pursue a concurrent degree under the Concurrent Degree Programme (CDP for Cohort 2015 and Cohort 2016) offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP).
A CDP involves a combination of a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from the same Faculty or from two different Faculties, and allows students to pursue a Bachelor's and a Master's degree concurrently. The programme structure allows some of the requirements for the Bachelor's degree to be also counted towards the Master's degree so that students can graduate in four and a half to five years with both degrees, instead of five and a half to six years if pursued separately.
The CDP by FASS and LKYSPP is applicable only to students who major in Economics, Political Science, Sociology and Social Work.
