ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate Programme
Candidates who wish to read Social Work at the Department must be successful in gaining admission to read a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. To read Social Work as a subject major, students must have a strong interest in working with people and should have obtained good results at the GCE 'A' level examinations or International Baccalaureate.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Primary/Single Major [B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.)]
Students will be required to complete:
- 60 Units of CHS College requirements
- 52 units of CHS common curriculum
- 8 units of Project requirement for SW majors
i) SW3103C Social Work Field Practice (I) (4 units)
ii) SW3104B Social Work Field Practice (II) (4 units)
- Pass at least 60 units of SW or SW-recognised courses, which include the following:
- SW1101E Social Work: A Heart-Head-Hand Connection
- SW2101 Working with Individuals and Families
- SW2104 Human Development over the Lifespan
- SW2105 Values & Skills for Helping Relationships,
- SW2106 Social Group Work Practice,
- SW3101 Social Work Research Methods or PL2131 Research and Statistical Method I, or SC2101 Methods of Social Research,
- SW3105 Community Work Practice,
- SW4102 Social Policy and Planning (4 Units), and
- SW4103 Advanced Research and Evaluation (4 Units).
- Read and pass a minimum of 36 Units at level 3000 or higher (including courses listed above), with
(i) A minimum of 20 Units at level-4000 or higher.
(ii) A maximum of 1 SW course at level-5000 can be read (subject to Department’s approval)
- 40 units of Unrestricted Electives requirements
Second Major
Pass at least 40 units of SW or SW-recognised courses, which include the following:

- Read and pass a minimum of 12 units at level-3000, provided courses requirements are met and the courses are not excluded for Minor students.
- The following courses are excluded for Minor students and Minor students are not allowed to read them:

- SW2106 Social Group Work Practice

Notes:
- To declare an Honours track, students must have completed 110 units, including 44 units in the Major, with a CAP of 3.20 and above.
- The Honours Thesis (15 units) is optional. To qualify for the Honours Thesis, students must complete 110 units including 44 units of SW major requirement with a minimum CAP of 3.50. In order to obtain B.Soc.Sci. Honours (Highest Distinction), students must achieve a CAP of 4.5 or above. Honours Thesis will no longer be a requirement to attain Honours Highest Distinction for all cohorts. Please refer to this page for the requirements of Honours Classification. Students can still freely take up the Honours Thesis if it suits your academic or career plans.
- Students who do not attempt the Honours Thesis will read level-4000 courses to fulfil the Honours Requirement.
- Students may also read a level-4000 Independent Studies Course (5 units). This level-4000 IS Course carries a pre-requisite of 100 units completed, including 44 units in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.20. It precludes the Honours Thesis.
- All level-4000 courses carry a general pre-requisite of having completed 80 units, including 28 units in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.20 OR being on the Honours Track (some level-4000 courses may have different pre-requisites).
