ADMISSION MATTERS
1. When is the intake?
Intake is once a year in August.
2. When will the application be open?
1 August (in the year preceding the intake) to 15 January (in the same year as the intake). Please check this link at https://fass.nus.edu.sg/prospective-students/graduate/coursework-programmes/application-process-gradcoursework/ for available programmes in August.
3. When will I know the outcome of my application?
The outcome of application will be made known by 31 May for intake in August.
4. What is the admission requirement?
For admission as a candidate for the Graduate Diploma in Social Work, a person must be a graduate of this University or such graduate of another university as a Senate may approve, and must have obtained either:
- A NUS Bachelor's degree with Minor in Human Services;
or
- Bachelor’s degree from NUS/NTU/SMU/SUTD and
- work in the social services or related fields, or
- demonstrate commitment in helping through volunteering experience reaching out to vulnerable populations**
or
- Bachelor's degree from other institutions with acceptable Graduate Record Examination (GRE)* taken no earlier than five years before the date of application and
- work in the social services or related fields, or
- demonstrate commitment in helping through volunteering experience reaching out to vulnerable populations**
or
- Other qualifications and experience subject to approval by the faculty.
*The quantitative reasoning section for GRE will not be considered. Only the verbal reasoning and analytical writing skills will be considered during the application. The scores are reportable for five years and score reports are valid only if our University receives them directly from Educational Testing Service. The University Code is 0677. **A candidate must submit evidence of his/her volunteering experience as supporting documents, together with the application. A verification letter is preferred.
Applicants whose native tongue or medium of university instruction is not English should submit their TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score as evidence of their proficiency in the English language.
5. Is GRE (Graduate Record Examination) a pre-requisite for admission?
Applicants (except graduates from NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD) must submit the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test report. The scores are reportable for five years and score reports are valid only if our University receives them directly from Educational Testing Service. 6. Are professional referees accepted for the application?
Both academic referees and professional referees are accepted for the application. There should be at least 2 referees for the application.

7. What are the fees like?

8. Are there any subsidies available?

COURSE-RELATED MATTERS
10. What is the course coverage for the programme like?
There are a total of 6 courses for the programme (5 Core courses: SWD5102, SWD5103, SWD5104, SWD5105 and SWD5106, 1 Elective course and 1 Social Work Practicum).
11. What is the programme duration?
The programme’s normal candidature is 1 year for full-time students, and 1.5 years for part-time students. If you exceeded your normal candidature, you will have to pay full, non-subsidised fees during your extended semesters.
12. What is the difference between full-time study and part-time study?
Aside from fee differences, the workload of a full-time student is between 3-5 courses in a semester, whereas for part-time student, it is between 1-3 courses.
