NUS Social Work Study Prize

Together with the Provost of NUS and FASS Dean’s office, the Department of Social Work have established a new NUS Social Work Study Prize to encourage students to major either as a first or second major in Social Work! Students from any NUS Faculty* who declared a second major in Social Work are also eligible for consideration. This means that you can take Social Work as a second major if your Faculty allows!

This Study Prize will be eligible for students from cohort AY2022/2023 onwards! Social Work Students with the best Grade Point Average (GPA) scores will be eligible for a one-time $2000 cash prize and this faculty level Study Prize would be documented in their transcript!

Social Work is a helping profession that focuses on enhancing the lives of the poor and needy in the community. It is a practicing interdisciplinary subject that combines Psychology, Sociology, Political Science and many other knowledge fields. You will be equipped with the heart and hardware to support various populations in Singapore! Graduates with a Social Work degree are highly sought after upon graduation.

Eligibility for NUS Social Work Study Prize

  1. Each award consists of a one-time cash prize of S$2000. The recipient will only be awarded once in his/her candidature. The award is open to NUS undergraduates from cohort AY2022/2023 onwards.

 

  1. To be eligible for the award, the candidate must have declared the Social Work primary major or second major and passed the following courses before the start of his/her 5th semester of study:
    1. SW1101E Social Work: A Heart-Head-Hand Connection
    2. SW2101 Working with Individuals and Families
    3. SW2104 Human Development over the Lifespan
    4. SW2105 Values & Skills for Helping Relationships
    5. First placement course e.g. Social Work Field Practice (I)

 

  1. The prize will be given to the eligible candidate after he/she has passed the first placement course e.g. Social Work Field Practice (I).

 

  1. Undergraduates who have scholarships from external Social Work employers such as the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), National Council of Social Service (NCSS) at the point at the point of reading the First placement course e.g. Social Work Field Practice (I) will not be eligible for the prize. Students will be required to declare that they have no external Social Work Employer Scholarships at the point of registering for their First placement course e.g. Social Work Field Practice (I) to be eligible for the Prize.

 

  1. Undergraduates who declare Social Work (primary or second) major after his/her 5th semester of study can still pursue the major but they will not be eligible for the prize.

How to apply?

Upon the registration of your first placement course e.g. Social Work Field Practice (I), you will be given the opportunity to apply for the NUS Social Work Study Prize in the Student Field Placement Registration System. Only students who have fulfilled the conditions as stated above will be considered for the Study Prize.
