Thesis title: Mediating Youth: Problematic Youth Figures in Hong Kong Popular Culture, 1960s-1980s (tentative)
Thesis Research Area:
My research investigates the evolution of the “problematic youth” figure in Hong Kong popular culture from the 1960s to the 1980s, with particular attention to four major media forms: comics, film, television, and popular music. By taking “problematic youth” as a central analytic category, the study examines how figurations of youth mediated the negotiation, interaction, and contestation of ideologies and social forces in Hong Kong, including colonial power structures, Cold War mentalities, capitalist logics, and emerging local consciousness.
