Wu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures

The Wu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures, funded by the Wu Teh Yao Memorial Fund that was established by his friends and well-wishers,  serve to commemorate Professor Wu Teh Yao (1917-1994), an educator, political scientist, specialist in Confucianism and original drafter of the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He served in many academic roles, including the President of Tunghai University, Taiwan, and Director of East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore.

Now held biannually, it has offered many distinguished Sinologists to deliver public lectures in Singapore, thereby promoting Chinese culture as Professor Wu once did. Since the very first lecture in 1995 by Professor Tu Wei-ming of Harvard University, a total of 19 outstanding scholars have delivered lectures as part of this lecture series. Some of the earlier lectures have been published as essays compiled in "Confucianism, Chinese History and Society" and "汉学名家论集:吴德耀文化讲座演讲录“.
