Rare Historical Resources on Chinese Communities in Southeast Asia
This talk by Professor Kenneth Dean, Head, Department of Chinese Studies, will discuss the unique archive of Chinese temple and association commemorative volumes in the Southeast Asian Chinese Collection at NUS Chinese Library, along with important digital collections of documents related to the history of Singapore and the Chinese communities of Southeast Asia.
The talk will also discuss how these resources were drawn upon to form the basis of the Singapore Historical GIS (SHGIS), the Singapore Biographical Database (SBDB) and the Malaysia Historical GIS (MHGIS). The talk concludes by pointing to new areas for collaboration with the NUS Libraries on further developing Digital Humanities projects relating to the Chinese collections.
