Minor

The Department offers minors in Chinese Studies, Chinese Language*, Translation and Interpreting.

Students can find out about the Asian Studies minor here, and the China Studies minor here. Both are not directly administered by the department.

*This minor is not the Minor in Chinese Language Studies (Both minors are separate). You are required to already know Chinese for this minor.

Minor in Chinese Studies (CH)
Minor in Chinese Studies (CH)

Minor in Chinese Studies (CH) (Cohort 2021 Onwards)

Pass at least 20 units of CH or CH-recognised courses, which include the following:

  1. at least 1 (ONE) course from the following:
    a) GESS1003
    b) CH1101E
  2. a minimum of 4 units of CH courses at level-3000
  3. a maximum of 8 units of CH-recognised courses

Minor in Chinese Studies (CH) (Cohort 2019 to 2020)

Pass at least 20 units of CH or CH-recognised courses, which include the following:

  1. at least 1(ONE) course from the following:
    a) GES1005
    b) GEH1004
    c) CH1101E
  2. a minimum of 4 units of CH courses at level-3000 or higher*
  3. a maximum of 9 units of CH-recognised courses (excluding GEH1004)

*Students are allowed to read level-4000 courses subject to departmental approval.

Minor in Chinese Studies (CH) (Cohort 2016 to 2018)

Pass at least 24 units of CH or CH-recognised courses, which include the following:

  1. at least 1(ONE) course from the following:
    a) GES1005
    b) GEH1004
    c) CH1101E
  2. a minimum of 8 units of CH courses at level-3000 or higher*
  3. a maximum of 9 units of CH-recognised courses (excluding GEH1004)

*Students are allowed to read level-4000 courses subject to departmental approval.
