Thesis Title: The Revival of Myth in Modern China

Thesis Research Area:
My research focuses on the emergence of mythology and modern transformation in China from the late 19th century to the 1940s. I will examine representations of the supernatural in the late Qing newspapers and periodicals, the transmission and transformation of supernatural beings from China to Southeast Asia, and the rewriting of myths in Chinese literature. Through these cases, I will explore how mythology changed across different historical and social contexts, as well as how myth interacted with transformations in intellectual thought, knowledge production, and changing concepts of rationality.
