Thesis Title: Hong Kong Literature in Singapore and Malaya/Malaysia: Transregional Literary Circulation of Hong Kong World Publishing Company in the 1950s and 1960s (tentative)
Thesis Research Area:
This paper studies the World Publishing Company and its literary resources in the 1950s–1960s. Established in 1949, the company printed and distributed Chinese books to Chinese communities in Singapore and Malaya, publishing novels, periodical digests, and popular literature for diverse readers. These works not only enriched literary resources in the region but also reflected the literary landscape of Hong Kong. By examining publications, editorial accounts, and the social context of Singapore and Malaya, the paper analyzes the dissemination and reception of Hong Kong literature and reassesses the company’s contributions to both Southeast Asian and Hong Kong literary development.
