Abstract

Technological applications have been readily adopted by the maritime industry and arguably represent the single most important parameter for achieving progress and a sustainable competitive advantage. There are numerous applications of technology in ship engines, equipment and information and communication systems as well as many service providers. What is important is to be able to identify and develop solutions that will provide incremental value in solving specific problems in the maritime arena at an optimum cost. The presentation reviews key areas for technological applications such as voyage optimization, secure transactions and performance monitoring and training, highlights challenges and possible gaps and provides suggestions for specific projects based on the concepts of artificial intelligence and remote sensing, blockchain technology and digital twinning.
