Fifth-Year PhD Scholarships in Economics

The K.R. Chou PhD Scholarship in Economics is named after Dr Chou Kai Ren, who was Lecturer in  Economics at the University of Malaya in the early 1960s, and later served as Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and at Nanyang University.   The family of Professor Chou has endowed this scholarship in his memory.

The scholarship recipient will receive a full tuition fee allowance in his/her fifth year of studies as well as a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

The terms of the Goh Keng Swee PhD Scholarship in Economics are the same as the ones for the K.R. Chou PhD Scholarship.   Dr Goh Keng Swee was one of Singapore’s founding leaders; he served as the first Minister for the Interior and Defense when Singapore became independent in 1965 and was Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 1973 and 1984.   He studied Economics at Raffles College (which later evolved into NUS).
