Economics is an essential tool for understanding the complexities of a modern society. It studies how people and society with limited resources make choices. As choices range over every imaginable aspect of human experience, so does economics. It provides the fundamentals for good decision-making in activities ranging from leisure and consumption, to work and production in all professions and industries, to conflicts between interest groups.

As an extremely flexible and marketable minor, economics is a valuable addition to any curriculum whether in business, law, engineering and technology, information and communications or health sciences. Besides providing a good understanding of the web of inter-relatedness among the activities of one’s private, social and professional life, it also helps the student to understand how his/her chosen profession fits into the rapidly expanding global network of economic relationships.

With the gathering momentum of globalization, it has become important to understand how economic policy decisions in any region like Europe or America can influence workplace at home. Understanding the importance and ramifications of trade and economic relations between countries and the role of transnational corporations are prerequisites to informed decision-making both in one’s personal life and in business and industry.

The essential courses will provide the student with the basics and familiarity essential for proficiency in the field of economics. By choosing the appropriate courses (called electives), the student will be able to focus on particular areas of economics that are of special interest to him/her for greater in-depth study. Given the range of electives available, a program of study can be designed that best complements the student's basic principal/major curriculum and career goals. As the elective courses offer training in the analysis of specific economic problems and for rigorous evaluation of economic and public policies, it is expected that students will be equipped with the skills necessary for the understanding of economic policies and events in their professional and everyday lives.
