New faculty members in AY2022/2023

We are excited to welcome seven new hires to our department in the upcoming academic year.

Sam Jindani will join the department as an Assistant Professor from the University of Cambridge where he is a postdoctoral fellow. His research interest is microeconomic theory, specifically social phenomena like social norms and bargaining conventions. Sam has a PhD from the University of Oxford.

 

 

 

 

Kong Yu-Chien will join the department as a lecturer. Yu-Chien is currently an adjunct lecturer with the department where she has been teaching quantitative methods for economic analysis. Previously, Yu-Chien was a Senior Economist at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She has a PhD from the University of Iowa.

 

 

 

 

Joris Mueller will join the department as an Assistant Professor after completing his PhD at Northwestern University. His research areas are political economy, development economics and economic history. Joris is from Switzerland and has a masters’ degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

 

 

 

 

Naila Shofia will join the department as an Assistant Professor from Yale-NUS College. Her research areas are development economics and political economy, with particular emphasis on understanding how culture, religion and social identity influence economic and political outcomes. Naila has a PhD from Bocconi University and a masters’ degree from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS.

 

 

 

 

Kohei Takeda will join the department as a Presidential Fellow after completing his PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research areas are international trade, economic geography and urban economics. Kohei is from Japan and has a masters’ degree from Kyoto University.

 

 

 

 

Wang Ao will join the department as an Assistant Professor after completing his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. His research areas are behavioural economics and applied microeconomics. Wang Ao completed his bachelors’ degree in Economics and Mathematics at Peking University.

 

 

 

 

Wong Kwong-Yu will join the department as a lecturer after completing his PhD at the University of Washington. His research areas are empirical industrial organisation, machine learning and applied microeconomics. Kwong-Yu has a masters’ degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
